Super roomy
With seating capacity to accommodate 72,000 people, the new George R. Brown Convention Center can seat every person who attended Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston in 2004.
End-to-end zone
How long is the new George R. Brown Convention Center? You could line up the football fields (including end zones) from Reliant Stadium, Reliant Astrodome, Robertson Stadium and Rice Stadium and still not be as long as the Brown, which stretches 1,600 feet from Polk Street to Capital Street along Avenida de las Americas.
Court capacity
Our neighbors the Houston Rockets could have a pretty fair size basketball tournament inside the George R. Brown Convention Center. There is room for 141 regulation courts on the ground floor of the GRBCC! That’s enough hardwood for every player in the NBA to play a half-court, one-on-one game … with more than 50 courts left unused!
Longball challenge
Our neighbors to the north, the Houston Astros, would be hard-pressed to hit home runs if the Minute Maid Park playing surface was superimposed into the two exhibit halls on the third level. A mythical home run over the left-field wall would have to travel 537 feet. (Right field is relatively cozy, requiring only a 366-feet homer.)
Patriotic hues
There’s meaning in the red-white-and-blue color scheme. Red fixtures denote mechanical systems, white signifies building surfaces and blue represents structural supports.
Wall-to-wall coverage
The building features more than 60,000 yards of carpet, or enough to cover the floors in about 300 average-size homes.
